Mike’s Gun: An ATMakers.org Project

UPDATE:  I’m so sorry to share that Mike Phillips passed away from complications due to SMA at age 39.  We are so glad we were able to share one of our favorite moments with Mike: our hearts go out to his mom, Karen, and all who will miss his light.

On Saturday, June 23, 2018 Mike Phillips finally checked off a long-standing desire from his “Things to Do” list – firing a gun with a switch.  ATMakers.org is happy to have helped this happen.  Check out his story below.

For over 4 years, we’ve been trying to make this a reality — we’re so glad Mike succeeded!  Many thanks to those who helped make this a great success:

  • Ransom International – for their generous loan of the original Ransom Rest
  • Reload Shooting Range – for their fantastic support and free use of their fabulous facility
  • Adafruit.com – for the hardware we used and the wonderful tutorials that made this possible.

And to our volunteers that worked so hard to make it a great day: Karen Clay, Lori Binko, Eric Carson, Nick Christensen and Moose and the rest of the staff at Reload.  Thank you for coming together to make this work!

Learn more about Mike at his (sometimes NSFW) blog, LithiumCreations.com.  There you’ll also find his Things to Do List – perhaps you can help him with his next item!

Mike was also the subject of a great piece on Showtime’s This American Life.  It’s well worth your time!
